Chicago – Day 4 – Wednesday

Started early by waiting for the bus far too long, in the cold. Did I say that it was cold here? Rick Fedrizzi, the founder of USGBC spoke to a HUGE audience in the Grand Ballroom. This room is way bigger than a football field. The room was full because Bill Clinton was the featured speaker. He’s great. The emphasis is always on the positive. The challenge of building more sustainably is really a huge business opportunity and we should get on that bandwagon. The phrase “green collar” jobs is being thrown around for the jobs that this industry can create. GreenBuild Expo

Both Clinton and Fedrizzi mentioned the importance of green schools. They have a new website just for schools at buildgreenschools.org. And there’s also a new website for learning about LEED at  greenbuild365.org. Check it out. On of the great analogies that he made is that we need to be more decentralized like cell phones. No more dependence on big power plants. We need to grow our own energy like with co-gen plants on-site.
Later I heard Thomas Mayne from Morphosis speak. He’s a bit arrogant, but he can afford to be. There was more but I’ve got to get up early and go to a LEED for Schools workshop.

Later.
